"Teaching the Truth in Love"
Since 1989, Pastor L.G. Parkhurst, Jr. has written the weekly Bible Lesson for the Saturday Religion Section of The Oklahoman. He has also published more than 35 books in the USA and abroad, including foreign translations.
He has served Presbyterian, Christian, and Congregational Churches in Oklahoma and Minnesota. He found his spiritual and theological home after visiting Stonegate Church and reading the Confession of Faith of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
A native Oklahoman, L.G. was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. From the second grade, he attended Edmond Public Schools and graduated from Edmond High School. During his school years, he received the Eagle Scout Award, the God and Country Award, and the Degree of Chevalier in the Order of DeMolay.
After receiving his B.A. degree in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, L.G. attended Princeton Theological Seminary and received the Master of Divinity degree with a major in Biblical Studies. Later, he returned to the University of Oklahoma and received the M.A. degree in Philosophy and the Master of Library and Information Studies.
Dr. Francis and Edith Schaeffer had a profound influence on his life, inspiring him to write 3 of their published biographies. In addition, he compiled and edited 16 volumes in the "Principles Series" of the writings of Charles G. Finney, America's most outstanding evangelist and theologian. His sermons and Bible Studies reflect the truths and way of life that he learned from Francis and Edith Schaeffer and Charles Finney, among others.
